Cactus, Genus Opuntia Streptacantha, flat stem.
The Opuntia Streptacantha is one
of the 300 types under the flat stem genus. In English, this type is called Cardon
Pear, while in Spanish it is referred to as either Tuna Cardon or Nopa. The stems
of the largest of the flat stem genus are flat and elliptical and grow to a length
of 30 to 50 centimeters.
In Mexico, the cactus is used
as a food source and as a health product for things such as lowering blood sugar
levels.
