As a result of the health
and environmental protection problems that have emerged in the latter half of
the 1980s, both the size of organic farms and the organic market have increased
due to the rising interest in organic products in the USA and Europe.
Not only organic food products
but also organic cosmetics are increasing in number, such as cosmetics which include
organically certified plant oils and herb extracts. This can be interpreted that
there is now a major theme of consciousness toward not only problems of human
safety when using agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizers, but also toward
the protection of the earth's environment.
Examples
of organic based cosmetics are Aubrey products, which came to Japan in 1999, such
as their Organic Aloe Vera, Organic Jojoba Oil, and Organic Green Tea. Also used
are organic herb oil extract made by Bristol Meyers and sold in the U.S. A. Recently,
50-75% of the products sold advertise that they are composed partly of organic-certified
ingredients. |
